The ageing crossing carries one of North Wales’ busiest strategic routes linking Flintshire with the North West of England and is now in such poor condition it needs full replacement.
Procurement will follow a two-stage early contractor involvement process under NEC4 contracts with an incentivised cost model and strong emphasis on social value.
Five firms will be shortlisted from initial submissions by the end of September before being invited into a three-month tendering period. The winner will be confirmed by May 2026 to start work that summer.
The new structure is scheduled to be delivered by February 2030 with the project run using a project bank account.
The scheme forms part of the Welsh Government’s Major Asset Renewal Programme and is being managed by consultant Mott MacDonald.
